Baseline Pawn Once Again Sponsors Fireworks At Sunset; Will Take Place After All Of The Racing On August 27th

Banks, Oregon- If you’re a fan of racing and fireworks then don’t miss the Saturday, August 27th event at Sunset Speedway Park. The fireworks will be presented by Baseline Pawn once all of the racing for the T&G Thriller/Doug Walters Classic has wrapped up. We are so happy to have Baseline Pawn back as a continued sponsor and encourage all of our fans to support them in return. Classes in action include the Super Late Models (with the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series, Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks, and 4-Bee’s.
This race is run in honor of the late Doug Walters who was a former owner and operator of Sunset Speedway Park and was a big part of Dirt Late Model racing in the Pacific Northwest especially with his involvement in touring organizations that he helped put together. In tribute to Doug, they will race for sixty-seven laps for the feature, which represents his longtime number. Doug’s son, Greg, has won every single Doug Walters Classic since 2009.
The origins of the T&G Thriller can be traced to 1997 at the Willamette Speedway in Lebanon where it would be held annually until 2002. Since 2003 the event has been held at SSP and in seven editions there have been six different winners. Greg Walters is the only repeat winner of the event at its current location winning in 2003 and 2005. Bob Boyd has the most wins with a total of three which were all won at Willamette.
Already in 2016 Sunset Speedway Park has hosted six Late Model shows. There have been five different winners with Joey Tanner the only driver to have won at SSP twice. Single-race victors include Jason Johnson, Jerry Schram, Collen Winebarger, and Greg Walters.
Tickets are Adults $15.00, Seniors/Juniors (13-17)/Military $13.00, Youths (6-12) $8.00, while Kids (5 and Under) are FREE. A Family Pass (2 Adults and up to 4 Youths) will be $55.00 while Premium Seating is $35.00 per seat. Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, and Racing begins around 6:30.
