SSP Ready To Rumble Saturday

Banks, Oregon- After the last two practice weekends getting washed away it looks like the season is ready to begin at Sunset Speedway Park. Saturday April 20th will mark the first race of the 2013 campaign. Classes that will be in action include the Northwest Extreme Winged Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and 4-Bee’s. A practice will be ran late Friday afternoon to give drivers a chance to get comfortable with their race cars before Saturday night.
“It’s very exciting that race season is about to get started,” commented Charlie Weaver, longtime announcer of Sunset Speedway Park, “I’m looking forward to seeing some racing this Saturday and I hope everyone can make it out.”
In last year’s edition Ricky Ashley dominated the Northwest Extreme Winged Sprints to earn the first ever victory for the newly introduced class. Clint Petty led every lap of the IMCA Modified feature to claim the win in that division while Johnny Adams did the same thing in the 4-Bee division and he would later go on to win the title. Multi-time Street Stock champ Craig Loomis got his championship season started the right way by picking up the victory the first race of 2012.
For Friday’s practice on April 19th things will get started around 4:00 PM and last until Dusk and General Admission is FREE to all spectators wanting to watch from the grandstands. For Saturday the 20th the front gates will up at 3:30 with racing scheduled to start at 6:00. Admission is the following prices: Adults $13.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-18) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, Youths (5 and Under) FREE, and Family Pack $30.00.
Upcoming races for the venue include the final weekend of April on the 27th where the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series will open their 2013 season. Also on hand will be IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, PHRA Dwarf Cars, and the Womens divisions. Opening up the month of May on the 4th will have the NW Extreme Late Models, NW Extreme Sprints, NW Extreme Modifieds, 4-Bee’s, and Women’s on the card.
The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway. From April until October you can get your racing fix at this facility which competes weekly primarily on Saturday nights. Regular classes in action include the NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4-Bee’s, NW Extreme Modifieds, and the Womens division.
