Northwest Extreme Late Model Series Opens Up Saturday

Banks, Oregon- The Northwest Extreme Late Model Series is ready to get 2013 under way and they will start the season of Saturday April 27th at Sunset Speedway Park. The Banks bullring has been the site of many races for the series since its inception back in 2010.
“This year is going to be exciting with some new faces planning to run the whole series,” stated Collen Winebarger, a former Tracer champion at Sunset and Rookie of the Year award recipient in the series in 2011, “it’s really good to start at Banks because it’s close for a lot of the teams. This race will really get our feet wet and get us all excited to travel.”
The tour has paid visit to SSP at total of ten times and has produced five different winners. Greg Walters has the most victories, with six, while Russ Sell, Billy Workman Jr., Terry Ferrando, and Jerry Schram all have one win each.
“I’m really excited for this season I have new MasterSbilt Late Model and I got a really good feel for this series last year,” said Brad Martin, “I’m looking forward to running up front this season.”
In the last three years of the series history there have been two different champions. Greg Walters has two crowns while Jason Wines was the winner of last year’s title. Something that has occurred in each season is that all three point championships were decided in the last night of competition.
“For a guy that is going to run the whole series coming out of the first race with a great finish is always a good start,” commented Greg Walters, two-time champion of the series and a four-time SSP Late Model track champ, “it also is a good confidence booster for the team not just the driver. It makes everyone apart of the team feel like they did all their homework and maintenance during the offseason.”
The race will kick off a seventeen race schedule that will visit four tracks in the states of Oregon and Washington. The series will pay a visit to Sunset Speedway Park a total of nine times. The series will make a return visit on May 4th for the second round of action in 2013.
The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway. From April until October you can get your racing fix at this facility which competes weekly primarily on Saturday nights. Regular classes in action include the NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4-Bee’s, NW Extreme Modifieds, and the Womens division.
