Northwest Wingless Tour Returns To Banks

Banks, Oregon- With two races in the books and both taking place at the Cottage Grove Speedway regulars of the Northwest Wingless Tour will visit their second race track of the 2013 season. Sunset Speedway Park will host the series this Saturday on May 11th. It will mark the first of six visits this year for the NWWT at the Banks bullring.
“The Non-Wing races at Banks are always good,” commented Ryan Bothwell, Series Director of the Northwest Wingless Tour, “and for the many race teams that are based out of the Portland it’s basically a race in their back yard. This weekend should be a good show.”
In 2013 Kyle Mehner and Kyle Miller have both won main events with the series so far. Last year in seven events there were five different winners when the series visited SSP. Both Bill Winsley and Theo McCarty managed to earn two victories each to become the only repeat winners in 2012 when the tour came to town. Ryan Bothwell, Sterling Kane, and Mitch Hoffsess were drivers that recorded just one win against the NWWT once at Sunset Speedway Park last year.
The Northwest Wingless Tour has made a total of twelve visits to Banks since 2010. Gary Davis has the most series wins, with three, all coming in the year 2011. Former NWWT champions Theo McCarty and Bill Winsley are the only other drivers to win more than once at SSP. Tony Thomas, Mark Nichols, Ryan Bothwell, Sterling Kane, and Mitch Hoffsess are all drivers that have managed just a single victory in those twelve races.
The series will be on hand the following two weeks at the Banks venue. May 18th was originally scheduled to take place at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington but has since been moved to SSP. The 25th will have the tour on hand one last time before they go back to the Cottage Grove Speedway on June 8th.
The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway. From April until October you can get your racing fix at this facility which competes weekly primarily on Saturday nights. Regular classes in action include the NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4-Bee’s, NW Extreme Modifieds, and the Womens division.
