Northwest Wingless Tour Back In Action After Week Off

Banks, Oregon- After a long and grueling Non-Wing Speedweek the cars and stars of the Northwest Wingless Tour took last weekend off to rest and recover. This Saturday, August 10th, the wingless warriors will tackle the Banks bullring known as Sunset Speedway Park for their thirteenth race of the season. This will mark the fourth time the series has paid a visit to SSP and in the previous three trips there have been three different winners.
Already 2013 has seen a fierce three-way point battle between Rob Lindsey, Bill Winsley, and Sterling Kane. Headed into Saturday ‘s race Rob Lindsey has a nine point lead over second place, and defending champ, Bill Winsley and just eighteen markers ahead of third place Sterling Kane. Lindsey also is the lead candidate for the 2013 NWSprintCarHistory.com Rookie Of The Year Award.
In fifteen visits to Sunset since 2009 the NWWT has produced eight different winners. With his win on June 22nd Bill Winsley is now tied with Gary Davis for most series wins at SSP at three apiece. Drivers that have two series wins at the ¼-mile clay oval include Theo McCarty, Sterling Kane, and Mitch Hoffses. Earning just one series victory when the tour has come to town have been Ryan Bothwell, Mark Nichols, and Tony Thomas.
Kyle Miller has dominated the overall win chart this year. After sweeping Non-Wing Speedweek and picking up a couple of victories at Cottage Grove earlier in the season he has amassed a total of eight triumphs against the NWWT in the current campaign. Bill Winsley, Sterling Kane, and Mitch Hoffses all have won once and those wins were obtained at Sunset. The only other winner is Kyle Mehner who emerged triumphant in the season opener at “The Grove” back in April.
The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway. From April until October you can get your racing fix at this facility which competes weekly primarily on Saturday nights. Regular classes in action include the NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4-Bee’s, NW Extreme Modifieds, and the Womens division. In 2013 the Northwest Wingless Tour will partake in eighteen races at four different race tracks in the states of Oregon and Washington.
