Greg Walters Looks To Retain Doug Walters Classic Trophy

Banks, Oregon- Greg Walters is having one heck of a year in 2014 with the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series. In five starts at Sunset Speedway Park this year he has emerged victorious. He is also coming off a weekend sweep at Willamette Speedway bringing his win total to seven in the current campaign. Now Walters will revisit the “Banks Bullring’ this Saturday August 2nd for the 6th Annual Doug Walters Classic ran in honor of Greg’s late father. Greg has never lost at this event.
The Doug Walters Classic event has been sanctioned by the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series except in 2009 when it was a part of the now defunct DIRTcar I-5 Northwest Late Model Tour. Greg Walters has dominated the competition in the five previous Doug Walters Classics but in 2010 he won the event by just over half of a second over the eventual runner-up Jason Wines. Greg Walters looks to get the job done and will enter the evening undoubtedly the sentimental favorite.
Walters leads the win column total with the series in 2014 with the aforementioned seven wins. Drivers with just a single visit to victory lane this season include Shaun Mayea, Collen Winebarger, and Phillip Johnson. Brad Martin still has the points lead by a single marker entering this race.
The Northwest Extreme Late Model Series has visited SSP a total of twenty-four times since the organization’s inception in 2010 with Greg Walters winning the most at seventeen triumphs including the Spring Challenge this year. Collen Winebarger has three wins while drivers with just one include Terry Ferrando, Jerry Schram, Russ Sell, and Billy Workman Jr.
Pit Gates will open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates open at 3:30, and racing starts at 6:00. Tickets are Adults $12.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (Ages 12-6) $5.00, and Children under the age of 5 are FREE and a Family Pass will be offered for two Adults and up to four Youths for just $35.00.
