Doug Walters Classic Next For NELMS At Sunset Speedway Park

Banks, Oregon- The Northwest Extreme Late Model Series has been off for the last few weeks but the series regulars are ready to get back to it on Saturday August 22nd at Sunset Speedway Park for the Doug Walters Classic. This race is ran in honor of the late Doug Walters who was a former owner and operator of Sunset Speedway Park and was a big part of Dirt Late Model racing in the Pacific Northwest especially with his involvement in touring organizations that he put together. In tribute to Doug they will race for sixty-seven laps for the feature which represents his longtime number.
Joining the regulars of the NELMS series will be the chauffeurs of the Super Dirt Late Model ranks at Willamette Speedway. This is the first time since 2009 that the non-crate cars have been apart of the Doug Walters Classic and that edition was a sanctioned event under the now defunct DIRTcar I-5 Late Model Tour. What has remained constant is that Greg Walters, Doug's son, has won all six races in memory of his father. He will look to keep his perfect record intact this Saturday.
Joey Tanner has managed to win three times this year with the series including two times at SSP in 2015. Greg Walters, Dave Walters, and Jesse Williamson have twice visited victory lane with the tour while Preston Luckman and Jason Johnson are one-time winners.
Sunset is the most visited track for the NELMS Series with a total of thirty-two visits since 2010. Of those thirty-one visits the tour has been on hand Greg Walters has won by far the most, visiting victory lane twenty-one times. Collen Winebarger has three wins while Joey Tanner has won twice. Drivers with just one include Terry Ferrando, Jerry Schram, Russ Sell, Billy Workman Jr., Dave Walters, and Jason Johnson.
Pit Gates will open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates open at 4:00, and racing starts at 6:30 each night. Tickets for both events are Adults $13.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-18) $10.00, Youths (Ages 12-6) $5.00, and Children under the age of 5 are FREE and a family pass will be offered for two Adults and up to four Youths for just $35.00.
