Wayne Van Raden Wins Wingless Sprint Series Open Wheel Frenzy At SSP

Banks, Oregon- The Wingless Sprint Series would make their first appearance of the season at Sunset Speedway Park on Saturday, July 23rd for the Open Wheel Frenzy. The “Banks Bullring” would be the fifth different facility the WSS has visited in 2016. A total of thirteen teams would make the trip representing the states of Oregon and Washington.
Sherwood chauffeur Rob Lindsey paced the field early in the main event. Lindsey lost the lead on the fifth lap to Eagle Creek teenager Lindsay Barney. Barney would hold the position down for just a single lap as Tim Alberding, from Salem, would get around her on the sixth circuit.
Time Alberding would continue to stay in front but would be passed, via the high side, by Wayne Van Raden on lap thirteen. Van Raden, out of Beaverton, kept his mount ahead of the rest of the field and would capture his first career Wingless Sprint Series victory.
Lindsay Barney would end her evening in an impressive second followed by Tim Alberding in third. Forest Grove’s Jake Gilman was fourth while Tommy Moreno, from Portland, crossed the wire in fifth.
Tommy Moreno was fast time of the evening in time trials. Heat race winners were Jake Gilman and Gresham’s Darren Rothe.
The next race for the 2016 season for the Wingless Sprint Series is Saturday, August 6th at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon. The tour was supposed to have gone to the 1/3-mile clay oval facility earlier this year but it would fall victim to the weather. For more information, log on to www.trophymotorsports.com.
