Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park was stop three of Speedweek Northwest 2021 on Wednesday, July 14th. It happened to be the third different track in as many nights with the tour. Seventeen drivers and cars visited the “Banks Bullring”, representing the American states of Oregon, California, and Idaho and the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Come feature time; it took four attempts to complete the first circuit on the ¼-mile clay oval. But, once the racing got underway, Justyn Cox cruised to the point. The West Sacramento, California-based chauffeur, set a torrid pace and got in a terrific rhythm once in the lead.

Cox, racing for Langley, British Columbia car owners Doug and Kathy Rutz, did have to slow down twice due to cautions. But Justyn was flawless on the restarts and in lapped traffic once it came into play.

Justyn Cox went on to win his fourth career Speedweek Northwest victory. The last time he emerged triumphantly with the tour was at Siskiyou Golden Speedway, in Yreka, California, on July 10th, 2017. However, it is his first at SSP to become the fifth different winner in seven series appearances at the facility.

Jacksonville’s Tanner Holmes ended his evening in second with third going to Corey Day, from Clovis, California. The top five finishing order balance was made up of Roseville, California racer Colby Copeland in the Jim and Annette Van Lare machine and Yuba City, California teenager Drake Standley, in fourth and fifth.

Corey Day was the quickest qualifier in time trials. Heat race winners were Colby Copeland and Justyn Cox. Cox would win the evening’s trophy dash to earn the inside front row starting position.

Thursday, July 15th, will be a day off for the teams before they finish up the series at Cottage Grove on Friday, the 16th, and Saturday, the 17th. Saturday night will pay out $5000.00 to the winner, and both legs at CGS will have a Hard Charger bonus courtesy of Rocket Engines.
